This Week In Comics - February 11th

Sweet Releases of the Week

This week was a slightly light week in terms of number of unique titles released, but there were a few books out that are worth a read. First off is one that I can always vouch for when it comes out is Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. They've been doing mini-series based on the urban fantasy novels about Harry Dresden for a few years now, and they always seem to hit it out of the park in terms of getting the personalities and looks of the characters down. With that said The Dresden Files: Downtown #1 has released this week! Next is Walking Dead #137. All I've got to say about that one is it seems Carl is on his way to being a man. Finally is Harley's Valentine's Special, which again is well worth the read. Next week we'll get more Harley Quinn variant covers! Make sure you go to our website to see what's set to release.

Spider-Man is Coming Home!
It's about time, but Spidey returns home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe of sorts. Sony and Marvel will share the Friendly Neighborhood Wall Crawler. What I can gather is that anything Spider-Man centric (including villains and side characters) will be released by Sony and anything else will be put out by Marvel. I for one am looking forward to see how Spidey is handled.

Weekly Comics Post - February 4th

Big News of the Week
Hey guys, first off we've had another shipping error this week, and unfortunately that means that we didn't get Saga #25 today, but we will hopefully get them in Thursday the 5th. Now on to next week. Just in time for Valentine's Day we get the Harley Quinn Valentine's Special, so make sure you keep an eye on that one.  We also get the newest entries of the Spider-verse (in Amazing Spider-man #13) and the newest issue of the Walking Dead (#137).

What the Duck?!?
The mystery has been solved of what Marvel's WTD themed variant covers will be in April. Originally it was thought that the D would stand for Deadpool, but instead it stands for duck, more specifically, Howard the Duck.  Howard will be gracing the variant covers of several Marvel books in April and they're to celebrate Howard getting his own book within the same general time. I can't speak for how many standard covers I'll have to order for the WTD books, but I will attempt to get some for anyone who's interested!  Here's a link to a Bleeding Cool article with the released covers thus far.

PRIMER: Walking Dead

As a result of the incredible finale of Season  2 of The Walking Dead, we've seen a huge influx of customers (both new and old) streaming in to read the comics. Given that TWD is available in numerous formats, I thought a brief explanation of how they all work was in order.

--

The Single Issues

Walking Dead is up to issue #95, and every almost single issue is sold out. The first several issues all go for $300+ each on the after market. Issue #19, the first appearance of You-Know-Who, just sold for over $1,000 by itself! Crazy, huh? So, anyone looking to get just the issues is in for a long haul.

The most popular format for reading TWD is the softcovers.

--

The Softcover Volumes

Each softcover reprints 6 issues. Volume 1 is issues #1-6, Volume 2 is issues 7-12, Volume 3 is 13-18, etc, etc. With the exception of Volume 1, every volume is $14.99

Volume 1 is set at the low, introductory price of $9.99

The softcovers make it easy to pick up one or two books at time. You can walk in, grab the next couple in the series, take them home, devour them (buh da bum) and then come back for more at your leisure.

15 Softcover volumes have been released to-date, covering 90 issues.

--

The Hardcover Volumes

Whereas the softcover reprints 6 issues each, the hardcovers reprint 12 issues each  Oversized, and hardbound, each volume costs $34.99

Only 7 Hardcovers have been released so far, covering 84 issues total.

--

The Omnibus Hardcovers

Check out these badboys: Only of these over-sized hardcovers (with a slipcase) have been printed so far. Each one contains 24 issues, and is priced at $100.

--

The Compendium

48 Issues, $75. In terms of price-point, the Walking Dead Compendium is the best value you can get for a dollar, but it is A Big Big Book.

Only 1 Compendium has been released so far.

--

I would expect to see another of each of the Hardcovers and another Compendium released within 12 months time. The softcovers come out like clockwork, every 6 months or so. The next softcover, Volume 16, arrives in June.

New York Comic Con 2011 Update

So I was thinking about the staff that are already down in NYC setting up the booth and attending the brunch or panels today, and I thought about a few things I missed yesterday with the main post.

Come to the booth and scan our code! Not able to, play along with the home game... or just check out the code and enjoy what we are saying from the show:

We will have the code on shirts at the show, but to see the cool design, you'll have to stop by the booth and see us walking around.  We will even have some of these very cool limited edition t-shirts at the booth!  What more info... SCAN the code!

We also have a few more items to bring with us that you might find very interesting.  If you are a fan of the Walking Dead and the new series starting soon, check out the Walking Dead board games... yes board games, also the etched pint glasses and steins!

We also brought many other games including the Resident Evil Deck Building Game! Such a great game with 3 different methods of play!
