This Week in Comics - February 25th

Sweet Release of the Week

Alright folks this is the week we've been waiting for since Edge of the Spider-verse #3, that's right Spider-Gwen #1 has released.  I got a chance to read it last night and, like her initial appearance, things have taken a bit of a right turn as familiar characters go.  Let's just say it seems like in Gwen's version of the Marvel Universe, the Fantastic Four didn't form.  With that out of the way, let's move on to next week.  Next week is the beginning of the pseudo-reboot of the smash hit Hawkeye with All New Hawkeye #1.  We also get Princess Leia #1 and Saga #26, so keep an eye out for those issues.

Now I'm Gonna Sing the Doom Song!

Back on February 20th there was a tweet that was very Invader Zim-looking from Oni Press simply stating that Doom is Coming.  So there were rampant rumors that Oni had gotten the publishing rights to the Nickelodeon cartoon Invader Zim. The original tweet was also retweeted by Zim creator Jhonen Vasquez, which added more fuel to the fire. As of the 23rd of February we have confirmation that Zim will be gracing the pages of his own comic in July. As to whether it will be an ongoing or a mini-series or something in-between is yet to be seen, but GIR is almost guaranteed to be singing the Doom song alongside his master.

This Week in Comics - February 18th

Big News of the Week

This week was a bit quiet in terms of book releases. There was a high number of Bat-Family and Super-Family books as well as Captain America titles. The newest Doctor Who issue is out and continues the 10th Doctor's dealings with the Weeping Angels during the First World War. Next week we'll see the wrap up of the Spider-Verse story line in Amazing Spider-Man #15 and Spider-Gwen's block busting debut! Watch for Spider-gwen #1 out February 25th.

A New X-Man for Apocalypse has Been Revealed!

A few weeks ago, Bryan Singer revealed his casting for younger Jean, Scott and Storm via tumbler, now we see another mutant casting revealed the same way. This time is everybody's favorite blue Bamfer, Nightcrawler. The last time we saw Nightcrawler in a live action movie was X2: X-Men United, played by Alan Cumming. Young Kurt Wagner will be played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, who I honestly haven't seen in anything other than ParaNorman. Here's a quick Bleeding Cool Snippet about this latest casting news.

This Week In Comics - February 11th

Sweet Releases of the Week

This week was a slightly light week in terms of number of unique titles released, but there were a few books out that are worth a read. First off is one that I can always vouch for when it comes out is Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. They've been doing mini-series based on the urban fantasy novels about Harry Dresden for a few years now, and they always seem to hit it out of the park in terms of getting the personalities and looks of the characters down. With that said The Dresden Files: Downtown #1 has released this week! Next is Walking Dead #137. All I've got to say about that one is it seems Carl is on his way to being a man. Finally is Harley's Valentine's Special, which again is well worth the read. Next week we'll get more Harley Quinn variant covers! Make sure you go to our website to see what's set to release.

Spider-Man is Coming Home!
It's about time, but Spidey returns home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe of sorts. Sony and Marvel will share the Friendly Neighborhood Wall Crawler. What I can gather is that anything Spider-Man centric (including villains and side characters) will be released by Sony and anything else will be put out by Marvel. I for one am looking forward to see how Spidey is handled.

Weekly Comics Post - February 4th

Big News of the Week
Hey guys, first off we've had another shipping error this week, and unfortunately that means that we didn't get Saga #25 today, but we will hopefully get them in Thursday the 5th. Now on to next week. Just in time for Valentine's Day we get the Harley Quinn Valentine's Special, so make sure you keep an eye on that one.  We also get the newest entries of the Spider-verse (in Amazing Spider-man #13) and the newest issue of the Walking Dead (#137).

What the Duck?!?
The mystery has been solved of what Marvel's WTD themed variant covers will be in April. Originally it was thought that the D would stand for Deadpool, but instead it stands for duck, more specifically, Howard the Duck.  Howard will be gracing the variant covers of several Marvel books in April and they're to celebrate Howard getting his own book within the same general time. I can't speak for how many standard covers I'll have to order for the WTD books, but I will attempt to get some for anyone who's interested!  Here's a link to a Bleeding Cool article with the released covers thus far.
